Make films nobody else can.
Lumen brings together filmmakers, 3D artists and producers who like hard problems. If you want to work where cinema, science and new technology meet, we would like to see your work.
Lumen Narrative is a Toronto film production studio for technology, science and innovation. We hire filmmakers, virtual production crew, 3D and motion artists, editors and producers to make films about subjects that are hard to explain.
Scripting, production, 3D, motion, sound and finishing all happen under one roof, so everyone sees how their part fits the whole film. Read more about the studio and the tools we are building into every production.
Why work at Lumen.
Subjects that matter
Science, medicine and technology that is changing how people live. Work you will want to show people.
New tools on real productions
LED volumes, real time 3D and cinema cameras, used on films that ship, not on side projects.
The whole picture
From the script to the final grade, every stage is in house. You see how every part fits, and you can grow into the next one.
Craft is the standard
We would rather make one film properly than ten quickly. The science is accurate before the film is beautiful.
Open roles.
Do not see your role? Apply anyway. We keep every reel on file for the next production.
Virtual production technician
Freelance. Run real time scenes on LED volumes, set up camera tracking and keep the wall, the lens and the lighting in sync on shoot days.
02Real time environment artist
Contract. Build the 3D worlds that play on the wall. Lit, optimized and framed for a cinema camera, not a game.
033D and motion designer
Contract. Turn mechanisms, products and data into 3D and motion, from style frames through to final animation.
04Cinematographer and camera team
Freelance. Directors of photography, operators and assistants for interviews, studio campaigns and volume days.
05Editor
Freelance. Cut flagship films and every cutdown, with a feel for story and the patience for review rounds.
06Producer
Contract. Run productions from first call to final delivery: schedules, crews, budgets and the client relationship.
07Co-op and internships
Seasonal. Placements for students in film, animation, game design and media programs. Real productions, real credits.
How hiring works.
Send your work
A reel or portfolio link and a note on the project you are proudest of, and what you did on it.
Review and a conversation
Someone who does the work looks at yours. If it fits, a short call about how you like to work and what you want to learn.
A first project
Most people start on a paid project, so both sides see the fit on real work before anything longer.
Apply to Lumen.
A reel or portfolio link matters more than a resume. Tell us what you made and what you did on it. Every application gets a reply.
- Toronto based, or able to work on set in Toronto

Complexity, made clear.
Tell us the audience, the goal and the deadline. A white paper, a deck or a fifteen minute call is usually enough to scope it.
