Life Sciences

Film production for life sciences.

Platform films, mechanism of action animation and scientific leadership films for biotech, genomics, diagnostics and medtech. Built so a molecular biologist and a generalist investor can watch the same film and both come away certain.

Lumen Narrative is a Toronto film production company for life sciences. We take science that is almost impossible to explain in a meeting, a platform, a mechanism, a data set, and build it into film that clinicians, partners, investors and patients follow from the first frame to the last.

Discovery, scripting, filming, 3D and CGI, motion graphics, sound and finishing all happen under one roof. The script is approved before anything is shot and the look is approved before anything is animated, so the film is accurate before it is beautiful.

Across the life sciences value chain.

Different organizations, the same problem: the thing that makes you valuable is the hardest thing to show.

01

Biotech and therapeutics

Platform and pipeline films for partnering, financing and launch, with mechanism animation built from your own data.

02

Genomics and precision health

A subject that has to be taught before it can be sold. Education, brand and direct response from one production calendar.

03

AI and computational biology

Digital twins, multi omics and in silico models made visible, without flattening the science for the generalist in the room.

04

Diagnostics and medtech

Product and procedure films that show what a photograph cannot: inside the device, inside the body, inside the result.

05

Research organizations and labs

A white paper or a set of results built into a film a non expert follows, for funders, boards and the public.

06

Life science tools and platforms

Launch and conference films, booth loops and sales cuts, every version from the same master.

A beautiful film with the wrong science is a liability.

Most production companies start with the look. In life sciences that order is backwards. These are the four things we design the whole production around.

i.

The science is locked before the look

We read the papers, sit in on the demo and interview your scientists first. The visual system is designed around the actual mechanism rather than decorated on top of it.

ii.

Many audiences, one film

Clinicians, pharma partners and investors each bring a different level of fluency. We script so one asset holds up in front of all of them, and covers launch, presentations and partner meetings.

iii.

Built for review, not against it

Fixed approval gates for outline, script, style frames and cuts. Review rounds agreed up front. Every note left on the frame in Frame.io and tracked until it is closed, the rhythm medical, legal and regulatory reviewers already work in.

iv.

Your experts have no time

Your scientists and KOLs carry your credibility. Shoots are planned around their calendars, and one shoot day is engineered to feed education, brand and advertising at once.

Abstract cellular visualization

Show what a camera cannot reach.

Molecular, genomic, anatomical and product visualization, built in 3D from the real science. Custom look development, with style frames you sign off before a single shot is animated.

  • Mechanism of action and pathway animation
  • Trial data, dashboards and forecasts as motion graphics on your own brand system
  • LED wall virtual production: your people standing inside a cell, lit and shot in camera
  • No stock footage, no generic AI generated video

Two problems. Two very different films.

All work

Cinematic platform film

GNQ Insilico

Bio Avatar · AI and computational biology
The problem
A digital twin of an individual patient's biology, running on multi omics data, causal AI and quantum simulation. Category defining, and almost impossible to explain in a meeting.
What we made
A fully in house cinematic brand film with a custom CGI look grounded in the real science, style frames approved before animation, and motion built on GNQ's own brand system.
Why it works
It can be shown to a molecular biologist and a generalist investor without changing a frame.
Ongoing content operation

The DNA Company

Functional genomics · Precision health
The problem
A subject that has to be taught before it can be sold. Not one video, but a permanent output of education, brand and direct response content.
What we made
The Gene Box launch campaign, the Master Your Genes module series, a cinematic brand trailer, a 38 episode long form series, monthly reels and paid creative.
Why it works
Recurring shoot days and a fixed post pipeline. The calendar fills itself and the look never drifts.

Approved at every gate, surprised at none.

One point of contact from the first call to final delivery, and after it.

01

Discovery

Papers, demo, and time with your scientists. The facts are right before a word is written.

02

Script and sign off

Outline, then script, then your approval. Nothing is filmed or animated before it.

03

Style frames

The 3D look is designed around the mechanism and approved before animation begins.

04

Production

Filming, 3D and motion planned around your experts' time and your site's access rules.

05

Review on the timeline

Rounds agreed up front. Notes land on the frame in Frame.io and are tracked to close.

06

Delivery and every cut

Master, congress, sales, social and web versions. Captions, transcripts and source files included.

Life sciences film production, answered.

What does a life sciences film production company do?
It turns complex science, a platform, a mechanism of action or a set of trial results, into film that clinicians, investors, partners and patients can follow. We handle discovery, scripting, filming, 3D and CGI, motion graphics, sound and delivery in house, so one team owns the accuracy from start to finish.
How do you make sure the science is accurate?
We read the white papers, sit in on the demo and interview your scientists before a word is written. The script is approved before anything is shot, and 3D style frames are signed off before animation begins.
Can you work within our medical, legal and regulatory review?
Yes. The process has fixed approval gates: outline, script, style frames, then cuts. Review rounds are agreed up front, and every note is left on the film in Frame.io and tracked until it is resolved.
Do you film in laboratories and clinical environments?
Yes. Labs, clean rooms, hospitals and manufacturing floors all carry access, safety and scheduling constraints. We plan site access, crew logistics and the running order in advance, the same discipline we have applied inside Ontario Power Generation facilities.
Can you show things a camera cannot film, like cells or molecules?
Yes. Molecular, genomic, anatomical and product visualization is built in 3D from the real science, and LED wall virtual production can place your people inside environments like the interior of a cell. No stock footage, no generic AI generated video.
Where are you based, and who do you work with?
Toronto, Ontario. We work with life sciences, healthcare, pharmaceutical, academic and technology organizations across Canada and the United States.
