Photography and film

Ontario Power Generation.

Photography and film from inside active power generation facilities, delivered in a single production. Lumen Narrative was technical producer and location manager, supplying the equipment, lighting and gear and running the technical side for director Justin Poulsen.

One visit, stills and film.

Access is controlled, schedules cannot bend around a crew, and the material has to represent a public utility responsibly.

01

The problem

Photographing and filming inside active power generation facilities. These are environments built for safety and continuity rather than for cameras: access is controlled, schedules cannot bend around a crew, and the material has to represent a public utility responsibly.

02

What we made

A single production delivering both photography and motion from OPG sites. Lumen was technical producer and location manager. We supplied the equipment, lighting and gear, and handled site access, scheduling, crew logistics and the running order that let one visit produce both the stills and the film.

03

Why it works

Restricted environments are the norm in science and technology work. Laboratories, hospitals, clean rooms and manufacturing floors all carry the same constraints, and the discipline that gets a crew safely and productively through a generating station is the discipline that gets one through any of them. Inside a generating station there is no second visit: the right gear, the right light and the plan had to be on site the first time, and that was our job.

Ontario College of Family Physicians

Physician films · KOL and leadership films
The problem
Real family physicians on camera for World Family Doctor Day, asking as little time as possible of doctors who have none to spare.
What we made
A multi camera interview production in one controlled block, cut into campaign films, physician highlight pieces and social cuts, with full transcripts.
Why it works
Each physician gave an hour. The College received a hero film, highlight pieces and a month of social content.

York University

Micro-Lectures on Microplastics · Research explainers
The problem
Dr. Shooka Karimpour's research on microplastics needed to reach the public, not only a journal.
What we made
Miniature York University classrooms with 300 printed students, a working screen playing the full lecture, and a base built from beach plastic. Lumen was technical producer, providing the facilities, equipment and lighting behind it.
Why it works
The audience looks at the waste while listening to the research about the waste.

Complexity, made clear.

Tell us the audience, the goal and the deadline. A white paper, a deck or a fifteen minute call is usually enough to scope it.
